We are a tourism company based near Åre in the county of Jämtland/Härjedalen in northern Sweden. We are passionate about where we live, passionate about outdoor activities, passionate about environmental issues and passionate about customer service.
We at Wild Exposure believe we live in the world’s best spot.
The county of Jämtland/Härjedalen is 49,443 square kilometres, that is bigger than Switzerland or the Netherlands! Despite it’s size, just 127,000 people live here! That is approximately two and a half people per square kilometre! The UK has nearly 250! The first tourists came to Jämtland/Härjedalen in the 1800s for the fresh air, rivers one can drink from, awe inspiring mountains, immense forests and an abundance of flora and fauna. There are rare orchids, lynx, brown bear, wolverines, wolves and even arctic fox. The area has one large national park and over 50 nature reserves. There are summer days when it never becomes dark and winter nights lit up by the magical Northern Lights. In summer temperatures sometimes reach plus 30°C and in winter sometimes minus 30°C. These extremes make Jämtland/Härjedalen perfect for all sorts of outdoor activities.
We at Wild Exposure love our outdoor activities.
In the winter we love going on long ski tours through the mountains, looking for animal tracks and staying in small mountain huts. We love getting cold digging snow holes and then warming up with hot chocolate. We love the excited cries of dog teams about to leave and the silence that comes when they begin to run. We love the feeling of lying in a warm down sleeping bag looking up at the Aurora Borealis on a clear winter night. We love the feeling that comes with leaving the first footprints in the snow on an un-named peak and leaving the first turns on the snow skiing down.
As the days get longer and the snow begins to melt we love mountain biking on forest trails catching elks, roe deer and foxes by surprise. You may find us looking patiently through the lens of a camera for rare bird species in some of Europe's best bird watching areas. Once the ice has melted on the lakes, it's out with the kayaks to enjoy the impressive views of the mountains which are still topped with snow.
Summer sees the mountains blooming with rare flowers and the power of the last ice age is revealed. You may find us walking through the dramatic Lunndörren pass or visiting the pyramids! We may be trail running past reindeer herds high up on Ottfjället or enjoying the dramatic beauty of temple valley.
In September the nights get longer and colder and the mountains come alive with fiery colours. This is the photography season, time to develop our
creativity in this fabulous wild landscape. Is there any place more beautiful than autumn in Jämtland/Härjedalen?
